Banting murders: Victim's wife recalls final phone conversation
SHAH ALAM: CIMB Bank officer Noorhisham Mohammad had told his wife that he would be away for three days to "save" cosmetics millionaire Datuk Sosilawati Lawiya, the High Court heard Tuesday.
CIMB Bank personal assistant Suzana Radin Pangat, 39, told Justice Akhtar Tahir that her husband made a phone call to her at about 8pm after breaking fast (buka puasa) on Aug 30, last year.
She is the eigth prosecution witness testifying on the second day of the trial of former lawyer N. Pathmanabhan, 42, and his three farm hands T. Thilaiyalagan, 20, R. Matan, 21, R. Kathavarayan, 31, who are accused of murdering Sosilawati and three others.
"He said that Kamal (Sosilawati's driver Kamaruddin Shamsuddin) had threatened to distribute inappropriate photos of Sosilawati, hence he and (lawyer Ahmad) Kamil (Abd Karim) had to save her.
"He asked me to understand the situation and he apologised," said Suzana, who teared up at this juncture.
She then asked her husband where he was but he straightaway disconnected the line.
Suzana, who has been married to Noorhisham for 16 years, had earlier struggled when reciting the oath at the stand.
Wearing a baju kurung and tudung, she was visibly shaking and her voice quivered, prompting Justice Akhtar to ask her if she had wanted some time to compose herself.
"Tak apa, teruskan (It's okay, please continue)," she said.
To a question by deputy public prosecutor Ishak Mohd Yusoff, Suzana said she did not hear any sound in the background when Noorhisham made that call.
"I SMS-ed him about five to 10 minutes after the line was disconnected. I wrote 'Why would you want to help other people but leave your wife and children for three days,' " said an emotional Suzana, adding that she felt angry when she sent the SMS.
She told the court that after the SMS was sent, a call came through from her husband's number but she did not answer.
Suzana also testified that Noorhisham had made another call earlier during the day at about 4pm, informing her that he was going to Banting in Kamil's car.
