Khalwat case duo dropped from Umno posts
ALOR SETAR: Umno has removed its Jerlun division secretary Jasmi Mohd Ismail and Puteri chief Yusmawati Yaacob, who were recently charged at a Syariah Lower Court in Jitra, near here with committing khalwat.
State Umno chairman Datuk Paduka Ahmad Bashah Mohd Hanipah said party secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor informed the two that they had been dropped from their posts in a letter issued on June 24.“The two of them have received the letter. This is the first such case (of khalwat) involving Umno leaders in Kedah,” Ahmad Bashah said yesterday.
He said division deputy Puteri chief Siti Hajar Ahmad Hayazi would act as the division Puteri chief pending the party's election.
The replacement for the secretary's post would be decided by division chief Datuk Abu Hasan Sharif.
Jasmi, 47, and Yusmawati, 31, had allegedly committed the offence at a house in Taman Tunku Sarina, Bandar Darulaman, near here at about 1.20am on May 11.
They were arrested by anti-vice officers of the state Islamic Affairs department.
